The Forum for Democratic Change ( FDC ) party is facing internal issues as President Patrick Oboi Amuriat. He has referred two senior party members, Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago and Ssemujju to the party’s disciplinary committee.
The accusations against Lukwago and Ssemujju stem from public remarks they have made criticizing FDC leadership and strategy.
Lukwago has been a vocal critic of Amuriat’s leadership style and the direction of the party. Meanwhile Ssemujju questioned decisions made regarding the party’s involvement in recent elections.
In a statement, FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda confirmed the development but declined to give details. He said the party’s disciplinary committee will investigate the matter and recommend appropriate action to the top organs of the party.
The referral of the two senior party members to the disciplinary committee indicates internal differences within the FDC, with some members questioning Amuriat’s leadership and the party’s strategy to revive its popularity.
Lukwago and Ssemujju join at least two other party members who were recently investigated and expelled by the disciplinary committee for indiscipline and actions deemed anti-party.
However, FDC maintains that it is a democratic party that allows for differing views, and that its internal processes will be followed to resolve any issues in a fair and transparent manner to ensure the party’s unity and focus on realizing its objectives.
