The management of Mulago National Referral Hospital said it needs about 10 billion to repair and maintain machines that had non functionality affected health care at the facility.
This follows a two weeks report that was published in the media story forecasting about “dead “ machines at the facility
Dr Nuwamaya said that they were expediting processes to restore the functionality of the machines and among the milestones reached was completion of renovation works in the room that housed Magnetic Resonance Imaging machines.
The Shs 5 billion MRI machine for disease detection was installed in 2018 but hasn’t been functioning because of incomplete renovation works.
The non functional machines include MRI , X ray machine , CT scan , ventilators and electronic suction machines for supporting breathing, blood pressure machines and patient monitors.
While speaking at a press conference held at the facility Dr Nuwamanya said they need close to 10.3 billion for the maintaining the machines though the government was indicating that they have Shs 6 billion and a possibility to provide more to that anticipated amount.
He also revealed that ROKO, the construction company which the government blamed for delaying the renovation works at the facility has resumed work and is expected to complete up the works in a nine period months.
However patients seeking to be scanned using the MRI machine are now sent to private facilities which charge them around 700,000 per scan.
The acting deputy director of Mulago hospital said at the same event that the facility has continued to provide more care to patients amidst the challenges such as overcrowding and limited funding.
