FPU seizes truck transporting 10 tons of underage fish
In a recent operation, the Fisheries Protection Unit ( FPU ) successfully impounded a truck carrying a substantial load of immature fish, weighing a total of 10 tons.
The seizure took place at Mpodwe border trying to cross to Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the FPU’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal fishing activities and protect the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems.
The operation, which occurred unfolded when vigilant FPU officers intercepted a suspicious truck registered UBH 141B during a routine patrol near Mpondwe boarder.
Acting swiftly, the officers conducted a thorough inspection of the vehicle and discovered its unlawful cargo – a significant quantity of underage fish.
The FPU, responsible for enforcing fisheries regulations, wasted no time in apprehending the individuals involved in this illicit activity. The culprits, suspected of engaging in illegal fishing practices, were immediately taken into custody.
