Foreign affairs minister calls for probe into alleged Casino operation at Ugandan consulate in Dubai

In a bold move, the esteemed shadow minister for foreign affairs, Mr. Haruna Nkunyingi Muwada, has issued a resounding call for a comprehensive investigation into shocking allegations of diplomats running a clandestine casino within the walls of the Ugandan Consulate building in Dubai.

Expressing deep concern in a statement released on July 24, Mr. Muwada highlighted the potential diplomatic repercussions stemming from the alleged misconduct of the diplomats.

The violation of laws in both countries could create a ripple effect that may impact Ugandan citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates.

Minister’s strong condemnation 

The urgency of the situation was underscored by the recent revelation, as reported by this media , where Minister of Foreign Affairs Oryem Okello denounced the activities as “criminal” and a blatant “breach of trust.”

Further exacerbating the situation, the actions of the diplomats run counter to the provisions outlined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Article 41 of the Convention explicitly states that the mission’s premises should not be utilized in a manner that contradicts its designated functions as per the Convention or any relevant international agreements.

Mr. Muwada emphasized that these disturbing revelations cast a shadow on the diplomats, who, by virtue of foreign policy principles, are entrusted with the pivotal role of safeguarding and enhancing the country’s positive image on the global stage.
