DPP Abodo not aware of files disappearing In Her office

While appearing before the parliamentary human rights committee on Wednesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Abodo spoke of her shock upon seeing what she termed as screening headline in a news publication saying that files were going missing.

“Actually I was so shocked to see a screaming headline: Files disappearing,” said Abodo.

“ I am not aware of any files disappearing in the office of the DPP . I am not aware. At least I left ( office) about an hour ago and I am not aware of any files… I was also shocked to see the headline.”

The committee chaired by West Budama North East MP Fox Odoi asked Abodo to comment on the issue of delayed investigation of files.

However the DPP stated that at times, evidence needed is obtained far from Kampala and may require officers to travel to the scene of the reported crime.

She added that investigation take long time to avoid presenting files in court without conclusive evidence or with half baked evidence.

“ we have to go to the last person,” said Abodo. “So we wouldn’t also want as an office to bring cases where we are going to say… especially this one because we think this is a public interest case. We don’t want to have it mentioned twice, thrice in court.

“ And we also want that by the time we are bringing the case to court , we have evidence. “ The constitution says that we should look at public interest not public wishes.”

Meanwhile the DPP assured the committee legislators that all the files in the iron sheets investigation will be conclusively be ready by this month.
